Kitchen Appliances

Standard kitchen appliances are available with many options and subtleties, and distinguishing the best for your kitchen can be overwhelming. In general, gas appliances are more energy efficient than electrical ones, although today’s electrical appliances are also much more efficient than the older models found in many older homes. A lower end or less expensive model might not necessarily reflect lack of functionality, but rather, a lower capacity, a noisier motor, or fewer features and options.

While items such as a dishwasher and an oven are found in virtually every kitchen, other appliances are considered nice bonus feature in the home. Replacement of the waste basket beneath the sink with a power trash compactor dramatically reduces trips to the dumpster and also decreases the volume of waste that ends up in landfills, especially in combination with an in-sink garbage disposal. To eliminate unpleasant odors from the disposal, slicing an orange or a lemon and grinding it up is an inexpensive and effective solution.

Ideally, it is nice to choose and install all appliances together. This enables the selection of matching pieces that together can dramatically improve the appearance and functionality of the kitchen. On the other hand, in the event that one item or another needs replacement, but not the entire kitchen, it is usually possible to select appliances that blend nicely with the others in the kitchen. Appliances in basic white or black are easily mixed and matched, and can also nicely compliment different wall and cabinetry colors that are tailored to the tastes of the homeowner.
